As she waits for her divorce from film director Jim Threapleton to become finalised, Titanic star Kate Winslet looks to have found a new confidant with whom to share her highs and lows. The 26-year-old actress is reported to have spent two nights at a hotel in an exclusive American resort with British film director Sam Mendes, who won an Oscar for the box office hit American Beauty. She is also reported to have told a friend: 'I love Sam - I just love him so much.'

The rumours of a new love come just two months after Kate's separation from Jim, 27. It is said that Kate has also offered a substantial settlement to her husband in order to speed up the divorce. The pair will share custody of their baby daughter, Mia.

Whether the rumours of a love affair with Sam Mendes prove to be true of not remains to be seen, however, many such stories have turned out to be accurate. Robbie Williams admitted in a recent interview that, despite denials of a physical relationship with Geri Halliwell, the pair did spend a night together. He said: 'We slept together. I don't think we found each other physically attractive. It wasn't really a sex thing.'
