Kate Winslet enjoyed a day out with her nine-month-old daughter, Mia, at the WOMAD music OKAug10dd.jpg (166379 bytes)festival in Reading. The Titanic star spent hours clowning around with the tot who, at one point, sat on her mumís shoulders, grabbing her hair for balance. But Kate, who was recently voted best celebrity mother, didnít mind and simply pulled a silly face.

WOMAD - the World of Music Arts and Dance Festival - is Europeís largest world music festival and this year featured the likes of Juan de Marcosí Afro-Cuban All Stars and Flamenco star Jose Merce.

Though Kate can hold her own in the presence of the glitziest of stars, it came as no surprise to see her enjoying a decidedly non-showbiz festival. The actress is well known - and well loved - for being very down to earth. She served bangers and mash at her wedding reception, honeymooned in Scotland, shops at Waitrose and Mothercare, lunches in Pret A Manger and most of her friends - Emma Thompson aside - are not famous.

The attitude led her to follow the blockbuster Titanic with the low-budget Hideous Kinky - a momentous decision as she met Jim Threapleton, now her husband, on the set. Mia arrived last October and Kate has proved a dedicated mum. Having turned down a lot of work to be with her daughter, she was often seen on the set of her latest film, Iris - about the late author Iris Murdoch - looking after Mia between scenes. "In between remembering my lines, Iíd think, did I leave enough food for her?" says Kate. "I feel so lucky being a mum. Itís the best job in the world."
